Kiln Results 12/19

Last kiln opening of the year. I spent all day Sunday glazing. Have some awesome and some fails. Tried out KY Mudworks Brown Bear clay for the first time and I love it, but definitely some glazes work better on it than others. I think I need to make some mugs with it and have bare clay on the bottom.

And now for some fails.

The top is Midnight Ceramics Unlucky Penny except it doesn't look like it. It's almost like I accidentally put a coat of something else on? Also the Chun in the Middle is weirdly orange	These are actually mostly ok, but one of the ornaments fell off the stilt and landed on top. Also I love the brown bear color, but I feel like the beards need some white.
My fault, forgot that the Sexy Mermaid Runs. I think with my diamond core sanding disk it will be fine for my own use	Multiple problems - didn't clean up the black enough when I messed up. I can't draw strawberries :) But also the glazes completely washed out with the clear on top

Yarn Bowls

I decided to try hand building some yarn bowls. I've tried to throw them in the past, but I'm just not good enough to throw a large enough bowl. I went with two different circumferences. One is a 4.5 inch circle and the other a 6 inch. Both are 6 inches high because I think it's important to keeping the yarn in. I'll post again when I carve them in a few days when they are dry enough

Organization and winter crafts

Spent yesterday organizing and cleaning so that today I could make stuff.

Made my first fairy house. Still need the roof to dry so I can attach it.

Also made a gnome mug and a snowman from my pumpkin cutters.

Striped multi texture sweater

I bought these two weights of yarn separately and then realized I was clearly enamored with this purple and green combo. The 4 skeins sat for over a year while I waited for the right pattern. A few weeks ago I had inspiration and this sweater came together. I got distracted with some holiday presents, but have also been pushing to get this done because I'm so excited about it.

Gnomes!

So I have made a couple of gnomes previously using Michael Harbridge's cones, but this was the first time I had sculpted one. I intended to make one or two and before I knew it I made 10.

This kiln load had 106 test tiles in it. I mixed all my new Clayscapes glazes a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to test them out. Also tested the ones I already had and a bunch of Coyote glazes I've had for a long time and haven't tried.
