So the globe split open. It didn't damage the kiln too much, just a little on one brick that I was able to sand down. It did also stick to the vase next to it. Going to have to figure out if I can save that one - it also ran at the bottom so refiring seems risky.
In good things I tried out running hot chowder for the first time and that came out awesome. I also tried doing some spoon rests in Obsidian with the birds that look amazing. The refire of the trees plate fixed the spots they had. Overall mostly good things.
I continue to make good progress on the blog. I've got the images fixed all the way back to the beginning of 2022 at this point. We're reaching the point where I was posting less frequently so I should be able to finish soon, especially now that I have a few weeks at home. I was basically on the road for the entire month of April. It was a lot and I am very happy to be back in my own bed every night.
Anyway, when I finish all the blog entries then I'll go through and update all the glaze pages. I'm still not entirely sure what the most efficient way will be to do those, finding all the images in the posts will be just as hard as finding them going through my pictures again. That is the next problem, the current is to fix all the blog pages and like I said I'm making headway.
Well I hoped I could save it, but no such luck. This globe has given me a headache since the start. When it was still wet, I thought I had solved it - but then in bisque is slumped a bit. When I was glazing it, I could hear things shifting a bit. I hoped that the glaze would glue it together, but it slumped some more. It looks like the walls of the kiln are holding it in the back and that the vase next to it is holding it on the side. Hoping there isn't too much damage, but waiting until it's really cool to try to move stuff.
The little tray on the right is pretty awesome! I tried running hot chowder from spectrum for the first time adn am not disappointed.
This is the first kiln in a while! I've bene traveling so much for work that I haven't had the time to do much pottery. I really need to travel less!
This kiln has some fun stuff in it. My vase turned luminary is so very awesome! I think I need to make more of these. I also really like how the travel mug turned out. The fishy plats are better than they were in my head!
I'm not sure about the garlic plates. I like how they look, but I'm not sure if they will actually grate garlic. Really annoyed that both of my trees plates had random spots on them. I added more glaze and put them right back in the kiln and hopefully the spots go away.
This kiln is a bunch of experiments and new things. The new puzzling vase forms came out amazing as did the vases that were extruded. For a couple of the extruded vases I used my glaze chips on a vertical surface for the first time. Not going to lie I was worried they were going to pop off. I had one tiny drip, but with my advancer shelves it was no issue at all.
The new luminaries are awesome as well. I did some tests with Georgie's interactive pigments on Laguna 60 that make me wonder why it's taken me so long to do this. I think I like the satin glaze with the glossy chips slightly better, what do you think?
Also there was a lag in when I glazed things to when I put them into the kiln. I've stopped writing things down and I think there are a few things that are going to have fallen out of my head in that time. We'll see how well I do at remembering glazes.
