Kiln Sneak Peak 7/17

July 17, 2025

This giant bowl is a replacement fountain for the birds. I stupidly left the last one out in the winter and it broke. I'm excited to give the birds a place to drink again.

Speaking of birds - my chickens have come to light in this kiln. They are so cute. Going to need help putting them together.

This kiln has a lot of mugs in it, two full shelves. A few are new and experimental like the ghosts. I spent the entire weekend glazing. There are at least 2 kilns as fast follow ons to this one with all the stuff I have glazed, or have to glaze. All of that and I still have a bunch of stuff to bisque as well. I've gotten really good at using my weekend time when I'm home efficiently, but not being here during the week to load and unload the kiln in the evenings really slows things down. Saggar Firing and Results

July 10, 2025

We built this fire after an insane downpour. We don't have a rain gauge, but I had a measuring cup on the table and it was 2/3 cup of water. I'm pretty happy with the results and learned a bunch. I had one small piece that just exploded, not really sure what happened there. Sagar Firing and Results

All the wood was wet, but we had some scraps from home that we used to light the fire. The boxes are from a wine club I used to be a part of.

If you look on the far right you can see the two larger pieces.

The star ornament came out really cool.

My favorite is the turquoise on the right.

Prepping for Sagar Firing at the Cabin

July 08, 2025

We were at the cabin last week for the holiday and I decided to try some camp fire sagar firing. I did this at dusk so the lighting is low for these pictures. I underglazed them with different Mayco underglazes and then added copper wire, yarn, banana, and salt. Then it was wrapped in aluminum foil. These were some old pieces I had made a while ago that I had on a shelf. Looking at these I realize how much I've grown in that even these simple pieces are so muhc less refined than my current pieces.

Lots of slow drying, shelves are full

June 26, 2025

I made 30 mugs this weekend in 5 hours. I then also made like 40+ small plates and spoon rests. It was a very productive weekend when it was way too hot to be outside. Lots of slow drying, shelves are full

Heat Wave and My Bisque Shelves are Full

June 24, 2025

I intended to be firing this weekend, but it is soo hot. Like too hot to fire my kiln hot. These are my shelves pre and post loading of the kiln. However, I did not start the kiln before I left for work travel this week because it was 100+ degrees. I'm hoping the weather is correct and it cools off and Craig can hit the start button for me before I get home. Heat Wave and My Bisque Shelves are Full
