Come see me today September 9th at Boxwood Farms from 11-5pm. Tomorrow Sunday September 10th I'll be at the monthly Belle Aire Market from 9-2. Next Sunday September 17th I'll be at the Bel Air Festival for the Arts from 9-5. Hope to see you!
Made this leafy tree. Could be a Christmas Tree or just a tree. This is made with a cone and the leaves from Learn Fired Arts.
I made a bunch of trees using cutters from De La Designs. I used all the sizes. Debi did a demo on Clayshare a couple months ago on how to use them that was really helpful.
My big add is the stars on top. I used a nichrome u to hold it in after trying out just having it balance via clay.
Remember I have two shows this weekend! Saturday September 9th I'll be at Boxwood Farms from 11-5pm. Sunday September 10th I'll be at the monthly Belle Aire Market from 9-2. Also next Sunday September 17th I'll be at the Bel Air Festival for the Arts from 9-5. Hope to see you there.
Two shows this weekend! My sister is coming out to help me as I'll be recovering from surgery. I plan on putting her to work! Saturday September 9th I'll be at Boxwood Farms from 11-5pm. Sunday September 10th I'll be at the monthly Belle Aire Market from 9-2. Also next Sunday September 17th I'll be at the Bel Air Festival for the Arts from 9-5. Would love to see you at one or all of these.
I'm starting to move to winter projects. I won't have these at the fairs this weekend, but will have them soon.
These were made with clay puzzling spheres from Learn Fired Arts. The key for this is to make sure that the bottom sphere is setup enough that the weight of the 2 spheres above it won't crush it (I lost a snowman this way). I was going to make a hat, but I thought it would be too much weight. I decided that instead I'm going to crochet a hat and/or scarf. I'm really excited about this. I think I'm going to make some smaller ones as well.
These ghosts definitely don't look like the sorting hat. I made them using the smallest cutter from De La Designs. I added a little clay on the top to be able to make the ghost top long and pointy.
A while ago I made a clock out of antique pennies and buffalo knickles. I was staring at it one day and thought - why not a clay clock? I immediately thought crabs, but I thought it would be too much to have 12 crabs so in came the feet and flip flops! If this works and it's something that people want I could totally get into making clocks.
When I made my penny clock I just bought an innexpensive clock mechanism from Amazon. As I get closer to glazing I'll buy one for this.
This is simply a 12 inch circle with a hole in the middle.
I've had this GIANT rhubarb leaf from Michael Harbridge at Learn Fired Arts for a few weeks that's been burning a hole in my table. My first attempt at making this bird bath failed, but this second attempt has gone much better.
My lessons learned (two of the 3 are in Michael's video on Facebook that I rewatched) are to use a 1/2 inch slab, reinforce the vein with a coil, and to use a less severe mold. The first mold I used was a planter and the second was one that I made off of a wok. I do wonder with the 1/2 inch slab if I could use the first mold and may try it again.
I used a puzzle mold from Michael as well to build what I hope will work as the base. I won't be able to test it out until I bisque it. If it doesn't work it will make an awesome floor vase.
Still working on fall stuff right now. I made one of these last year and wanted to make some more. I love the dragon's blood stamp from De La Designs.
For the handle I just used a potter's thumb tool to make the scales and then cut toes at the bottom. I will use a different color on it to make it pop.
I wanted something on the bottom so I ended up using a fire stamp as a nod to fire breathing dragons. I have found that people really enjoy the extra touch when there's something on the bottom of mugs.
Clearly I have to put crabs on everything. Apparently it's required in Maryland.
Also just a reminder that I will be at the Taneytown Artisan Fest this Saturday July 22 from 10-4. Hope to see you there.
Mushrooms seem to be all the rage right now, as they should be since they are so cute. When I was in Chaumont a few weeks ago I had this vision of a Mushroom Jewelry holder. Initially I was thinking this would be like the birdbaths I've done in the past where it has a flat top where you can put jewelry and then holes around the outside.
But then when I was actually thinking about how to design it I realized I could make it into a jewelry box by enclosing the bottom and leaving it 2 pieces. This is effectively the same as making a mug, but shorter and without a handle.
In my original vision I saw a worm on the top for rings. It's a little inch worm. Isn't she cute? I'm super thrilled with how this is coming together.
Schedule for July - I will be at the Belle Aire Market this Sunday July 9th, on July 22nd I'll be at the Taneytown Art in the Park and July 29th at the Craft Fair in Chaumont, NY.
I got the new square cutters from De La Designs and immediately put them to use. The clay was a little too wet when I did it which is a learning for next time, but I still think they look great.
This one is using the biggest cutter.
This one is using the smallest cutter. I haven't used the middle cutter yet, but will soon.
I made all of these (and the other squiggle things) in my Learn Fired Arts molds. It makes it so much easier to have a puzzling mold than trying to create my own. I did get a little squiggle happy in the last week, but also made some pumpkins that will get a special texture treatment.
Reminder I will be at the Belle Aire Market tomorrow Sunday June 11th. Come out and see me. I also just added another festival in July in Taneytown on July 22nd.
My hands are really tired from extruding, but I love how this stuff came out.
This is a ghost, but a friend pointed out that it looks like the Harry Pottery Sorting Hat. It does, but totally unintentional.
These will be little candy corn luminaries.
Christmast Tree!
I got these sprigs recently from Amazon. One of my coworkers wanted to do a commission in Pewabic style. I had to learn first what Pewabic is and there are a lot of sprigs of ginko and calla lily. I'm already big into calla lilies so I ended up buying them to experiment. I'm still not sure I can make my style of pottery Pewabic, but I do like how these are turning out.
