Kiln Results 9/29
October 01, 2026This kiln load has a LOT of experiments and a LOT of fall/Halloween, so let’s get into it!
First up: the redo of the ghost mugs, which came out AMAZING. I changed the shape of the mug, adjusted the size of the ghosts, and—most importantly—used a glaze that didn’t run. That last part was key. 😂 These are so good, and I think my biggest mistake was not making enough of them.
Next up was my attempt at some non-branded Orioles and Ravens mugs. The orange Orioles mug is awesome. The one with the clear glaze on the outside, however, ran and just doesn’t really pop. The Ravens mug is okay. I know the purple isn’t quite right, but I’m limited to the glaze colors I have, so we’re going with “close enough.” 😂
Also in this load is my first attempt at a Maryland blue crab series, and I love, love, LOVE these so much. I’m really hoping everyone else loves them as much as I do because I definitely want to make more.
Then came a couple of humbling kiln moments.
I tried to save a mug and managed to ruin another one in the process. Note to self: trying to glue a handle back on with Stroke & Coat after you’ve broken it off is not going to work. Apparently, the kiln does not care about my optimism.
I also had a stilt fail, with one of my pumpkins falling over and attaching itself to another pumpkin. Honestly, they looked pretty cute stuck together, so I was going to get a picture when I took them out of the kiln.
Except…while trying to take the picture, I dropped my phone on them.
Which separated the pumpkins.
And broke a leaf.
Sigh.
The kiln giveth, and the kiln taketh away. 😂
